I was interested to find that an ancestor apparently used to have the Bank of Butterstone, but soon found out that lived on a small holding called Bank.   It's still there today but much changed.

No birth or baptism record was found for John Bruce [AN018], the putative eldest son of John Bruce [AN036] and Elizabeth Robertson [AN037].  Records of his marriage  and death are however available.  On the other hand, the birth of David Bruce is recorded, but no record of either his marriage or death has been found in Scotland.   One hypothesis is that John and David are one and the same individual, having been named David but adopting the name of John.
