References:

David Symon (1912-1996) told his great-niece Alison Symon (1966-) that James Simpson Scotland Symon (1897-1984; first cousin of the said David Symon) was an "engineer" at Carron Iron Works; and that James's and Annie's son David (b. 1922) was burnt in a vat of boiling oil.

James Scotland Symon (1897-1984) was visited in Falkirk in 1974 by the late David E. Symon (b.1928), from Waterlooville, Portsmouth, Hampshire, who was touring Scotland on his motor cycle.  This David Symon was the grandson of John Lamb Symon (1830-1877), who was the eldest son of David Symon (1804-1889)[AN032] and Elizabeth Symon, maiden surname Kelt [AN033].  David said that James, who was 77 years old at the time, could not remember much except that he used to have a picture of his [great-]grandfather David Symon (1804-1889) (source: email from Betty Demond to Peter Symon, 06 June 1996).

David E Symon of Waterlooville and James Symon of Falkirk were both great-grandsons of David and Elizabeth Symon of Errol, making them second cousins.  Possibly the picture James remembered once having had is the one showing a family group believed to be the extended family of David and Elizabeth Symon [AN032 and AN033] of Errol, circa 1879, and which is thought to have shown his father, David Symon (1966-1930), who would have been 12 or 13 years old in 1879, his grandparents Peter and Margaret Symon [AN016 and AN017].

Notice and photograph of the marriage of James S. Symon (1929-1999), and Agnes Tulloch Struthers (1931-2005), in Redding Church, Polmont, Falkirk on 15 March 1957.   James was the youngest son of James Simpson Scotland Symon (James Symon) and Annie Campbell Hutton or Symon (Annie Symon).

 (Falkirk Herald, Saturday 23 March 1957, p.7.)

James Symon was a manager in an aluminium works.   Agnes was a shop manageress.  He died in 1999 aged 70 and Agnes survived him by almost six years, dying in 2005 aged 74.  James died on 29 December, eight years to the day after the death of his elder brother, Alexander Symon.  29 December was also the day on which the great-uncle of both Alexander and James Symon, James Simpson Scotland Symon [my great-grandfather, AN008] (1872-1955), married Isabella Bruce [my great-grandmother, AN009] in Inver church, Birnam, in 1899.  29th December was also the date that my great aunt, Ella Symon (1905-1981), sister of my great grandfather, Scot Symon, married David Christie, in the Victoria Hall, Errol, in 1932.

David Symon (1866-1930), grandfather of Alexander and James, had named one of his sons James Simpson Scotland Symon (1897-1984) after the above James Simpson Scotland Symon, his brother.  My great-grandfather, born in 1872, had been named after the Minister of the Errol United Presbyterian Church, Rev. James Simpson Scotland.   James Scotland Symon and Agnes Symon, pictured here, named their own son James Scotland Symon (1965-), which was also the name given to the second son, born in Errol, of my great-grandparents James Simpson Scotland Symon and Isabella Symon: James Scotland Symon (Scot Symon) (1911-1985), football player and manager.   The latter, footballing, Scot Symon, married Doreen Pearn.  He was the first cousin of James Simpson Scotland Symon (1897-1984), who in turn was the father of James Symon pictured here.  The children of Scot and Doreen Symon are therefore second cousins of James and Agnes Symon pictured here, and of James's siblings; the grandchildren of Scot and Doreen Symon are third cousins of the grandchildren of James Simpson Scotland Symon and Annie Campbell Symon, née Hutton, by their common descent from Peter and Margaret Symon, Errol.
